Sept. 1998, Visit Buddhists in Nepal. Venerable Gensei Ito was offered a Nepalese style ordination ceremony by the Chief Monk of Nepal, Venerable Vikkhu Aniruddha Mahasthavir. She is named gMaha Maya Devi.h

Sept. 1998, Dr. Ito resigned as General Secretary, Maha Bodhi Society of India in Japan. Late Prof. H. Nakamura resigned as Honorary President of the society.
July 1998, Ms. Ayami Ito, Vice President of ASCA Horin Overseas Cultural Exchange was ordained at the Hieizan Enryakuji Temple, General Headquarters of Tendai Sect. Her ordination name became Gensei Ito.
